Panama
Panama is the style of weave used in the famous Panama hats, but it's also a fancy term for "basket weave". This piece has an interesting backstory. After receiving a load of firewood during the winter, I discovered multiple logs exhibited figuring - maple figuring to be exact. Not wanting to reduce the find to ashes, I set the sections aside for use later, ultimately culminating in the wall hanging you see here. The logs were sliced on the bandsaw, cut to size, and assembled into this repeating pattern framed in Spanish cedar. The figured maple exhibits great depth, with some of the "ribbons" almost defying their two-dimensional stature. The piece is wired for hanging right out of the box, and can be displayed in either vertical or horizontal position.
Medium:
Figured Maple, Spanish Cedar Frame
Dimensions:
32” wide x 21” tall x 2.5” deep
