Medusa
Jellyfish are cool. To look at. I'd been wanting to try my hand at making a sculpture and, before I began, what I didn't want was the piece --> mounted to a rod --> mounted to a base. The tentacles had to support it in some way. On this sculpture, hand-bent steel rods make up the numerous tentacles, with three of them extending down to the surface like a tripod for support. Then I was able to add the others all around, with smaller gauge steel depicting the curlier arms near the center. The bell, or umbrella, of the jellyfish is made from solid mahogany. Some small brass parts added to the top gives the piece a steampunk feel, but an understated one and not overblown like some of that stuff gets.
Medium:
Mahogany, Steel, Brass
Dimensions:
16” tall x 13” wide x 13” deep
