Watch as a flock of swifts (or cauldron of bats) swoop in unison during the night in this picturesque moonlit landscape. The "birds" are made of wooden foundry molds, originally used for casting threads for very large pipes. Walnut, cherry, and poplar veneer simulate the stylized panorama, and the wood grain continues around the sides, extending the illusion while a steel rod delineates the horizon. The foundry molds bring great depth to this piece, leaping off the wooden surface as if in mid-flight.
