Evolution

This beautiful sculpture began life as an unassuming piece of driftwood. I knew what I was going to do to the wood but, like a box of chocolates, you never know what're gonna get. 20 passes later on the bandsaw and I could see right away how the finished sculpture was going to look. Each slice fans out from the next, creating a fascinating pattern that is both regular yet organic like a seashell or unusual marine organism. The sections are glued together and mounted onto a fine walnut base. The driftwood also rotates on the steel rod, letting you display the work at any angle.
